jordania abre campo para refugiados sirios

Amman on Sunday announced that it would be opening its first camp for Syrian refugees in the town of Zaatari near Jordan’s border with Syria, the Jordan Times reported.
UNHCR liaison officer Ali Bibi told the paper that the camp could be expanded to host as many as 113,000 people, adding that the facilities will be provided with “drinking water, electricity generators, mattresses, beds and bed sheets.”
For its initial opening the camp would have facilities “to host between 3,000 and 5,000 refugees,” the UNHCR official also said.
The paper reported that Jordan “is currently providing assistance to more than 35,000 Syrians,” adding that Amman expects “a new wave of displaced Syrians expected to enter the country in the wake of battles in Damascus and Aleppo.”
